Underfloor insulation: Work from home in comfort – and barefoot to boot!

Underfloor insulation could save you a significant amount of money and improve your comfort working from home.
Underfloor insulation means you can work from home barefoot

Underfloor insulation does more than just keep your feet comfortable.

Did you know homes can lose or gain up to 20% of their heat – depending on the season – due to inadequate underfloor insulation?

Roof insulation is standard in Australia, and new homes come with wall insulation as well. But often a weak spot in a home’s insulation plan lies in the flooring.

An investment in underfloor insulation in modern or older buildings is a worthwhile one, because thermal insulation beneath the floor prevents heat (and cooling) from escaping.

In fact, the more temperature shifts you experience indoors and outdoors, the more noticeable the lack of underfloor insulation will be.

Does Underfloor Insulation Make A Difference?

A home with properly installed underfloor insulation will have less chance of losing heat in the winter and gaining heat in the summer.

Even with an insulated home, floors are likely to let in cool air or let the heat escape.

In addition to providing a more comfortable indoor environment, underfloor insulation can reduce your energy consumption.

Underfloor insulation can also dampen the sound of footsteps and reduce noise transfer from outside into your house.

How Does Underfloor Insulation Work?

Naturally, heat is carried from places with high thermal energy to places with low thermal energy until temperature levels are even throughout.

Insulation underneath the floor protects your home from air flow from below.

As a result, your family can be comfortable all year round as the climate in your home stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

By trapping billions of tiny air pockets in their structure, bulk insulation slows down heat by breaking up its path.

Polyester rolls are pre-cut for joist floors new and old and are made of recycled materials, plus they come in a range of thicknesses and R-values.

The rolls are stapled along the floor joists for long-lasting, energy-efficient insulation thanks to their strong, heat-bonded properties.

A home’s foundation is often filled with debris from construction, such as discarded bricks, glass, nails that protrude into the ground, and pipe ends.

Having installed floor insulation for years, we know spiders and snakes are also a threat. If there is enough space to stand, the risks are greatly reduced.

However, our installers only need a small clearance under a floor to install your insulation.

FAQs On Polyester Underfloor Insulation

What does underfloor insulation do?

Underfloor insulation keeps the outside temperature outside and your home’s temperature at a comfortable level, as it acts as a thermal barrier for the floors.

Is it easy to install?

Installing underfloor insulation is dependent on the type of home you have. A variety of factors contribute to the amount of space beneath the floor, including height, joist spacing, and access. You can contact us with any questions you may have about the installation.

Does wind affect it?

With underfloor insulation, you can staple through it easier, and you also reduce wind penetration – and, unless it’s extremely blustery, your underfloor insulation will not be breached by the wind.

Does underfloor insulation stop moisture?

Definitely. Moisture is not absorbed by the polyester insulation. Furthermore, it is supplied in long rolls, so there are fewer joint points for moisture, and of course air, to leak through.

How long will the underfloor insulation last?

When installed per manufacturer’s instructions, polyester insulation is backed by a 70-year durability warranty, so you can be sure that it will continue to work for a long time. In addition, because the insulation is heat bonded, it doesn’t require formaldehyde glues, which can degrade over time.

Is underfloor insulation environmentally friendly?

Using underfloor insulation will make your home more energy efficient, since they are more thermally efficient, therefore requiring less air conditioning and heating. Fewer energy requirements are needed and emissions are reduced, which is great for the environment.

How safe is polyester underfloor insulation?

Zero ignitability and flamability are features of polyester. In addition to being non-allergenic, it is naturally resistant to insect and vermin infestations, and it comes from the same stuff that goes into your bedding.

Do I need other types of insulation in my home?

Our team can provide a quote on how to achieve complementary insulation throughout your home. If you install complementary ceiling and wall insulation in your home, you will save even more money on your heating and cooling expenses.

Can underfloor insulation be installed in existing floors?

Certainly. We will offer you the best solutions based on your free measurement and quote. You can book an appointment or speak to an insulation expert by dialing 1800 891 529.

Is there a noise reduction benefit?

Due to its density, underfloor insulation indeed offers an acoustic benefit, but because it is designed for thermal performance, it is difficult to say how much.

How much improvement would underfloor insulation make?

With wooden floorboards, they have an average R-rating of R0.7. However, carpet and underlay might raise the rating to R1.0 – and for many people, that extra R0.3 helps greatly. However, a timber floor or a carpeted floor with underfloor insulation has a minimum R3.2 value, while a carpeted floor has a minimum R3.5 value. That’s the difference.
